Do you know you can upload video to YouTube right from your mobile phone?

I just discovered this as I’ve been working on APAC’s YouTube Channel.

So I figured I’d give it a shot. Below is the video that tells you how to do it.

(Apparently, with the iPhone you can bypass the need for the email address and just upload directly to YouTube.)

Have you tried uploading video directly from your phone to YouTube? How’d it go?

The Human Comedy at Astoria Performing Arts Center

Promotional Image for The Human Comedy at Astoria Performing Arts Center

I was thinking a bit about content marketing.

Imagine connecting with audiences in a way that leaves them looking forward to what you’ll do next. What if people actually started saying things like “I love your emails!” Weird, right?

But that’s kinda the idea behind the  Journey Factor.

As you share one idea at a time, the audience becomes part of the story. Over the long term this leads to more audience.

It’s also a lot more fun than “buy tickets now” emails. :)

I’d like to share some of things I’ve found applying this concept at the Astoria Performing Arts Center. And in particular it’s application to an upcoming production of Galt MacDermot’s The Human Comedy.

Here’s the first thing…

What If Your Opinion Sucks?

by Dave Charest

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But what if their or your opinion sucks?

And by sucks I mean is just plain wrong.

The cool thing about all these new media tools is that it’s relatively easy to test things.

So if someone is of the opinion you should use one design, email subject line, call to action or whatever else over another all you have to do is put it to the test.

It’s one thing to have a personal preference and quite another to make decisions based on the reality of how people respond.

Don’t take my opinion or any one else’s. Try them! Then let the truth decide.

Let’s say I invited you to my home.

But instead of giving you my exact address, I just told you I lived in Brooklyn.

Would you still be able to find me? Perhaps. But it’d be a hell of lot easier if I gave you the direct address wouldn’t it?

One of the biggest mistakes I still see people make online has to do with the use of links.

For some reason far too many people still use their main website url as the link for EVERYTHING. Even when there’s a very specific webpage they want people to see.

Instead of giving me a direct address to that page they send me to Brooklyn hoping that I find my own way the right location.

Why is this a problem? Allow me to explain.

Invisible online? My wife and I recently bought a used Honda Odyssey.

We love it.

During the research phase we saw them everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

The Odyssey shone like a flashing beacon.

Coincidence?

Sure, we were on high alert. But still.

It’s actually, kinda powerful when you think about it.

Because we were actively looking for them we noticed them more.

What would people notice if they were looking for you online?

Do You Hate Marketing?

by Dave Charest

You are not alone.

But what if you stopped thinking of it as marketing?

What if you thought of it as a way to share your artistry with others? What if you thought of it as a way to extend your story in a way others found interesting?

What if you couldn’t send ads? What if you had to have a conversation instead?

How would that change things for you? How would that change things for others?
