Why do we do content marketing? The Perfect Customer Theory

By Dave Charest Leave a Comment

For us in the business world, we do content marketing to create customers that are more successful with our products or services so they stay longer, spend more, and refer more people to us.

You know, the perfect customer.

Can content marketing actually make that happen?

Yes. And it’s simple. If, you can get out of your own way.

Remember, simple doesn’t mean easy. Simple is often more difficult to achieve because of our natural tendency to complicate things.

But here’s some practical advice for making it work: be open to feedback from the people that matter most — your customers.

They’ll let you know if your content works. They’ll also show you how to improve it.

If you’ll focus on listening to your customer, you’ll set yourself on a path toward attracting and influencing the perfect customers.

Here’s how to attract the perfect customer.

Understand the problem they’re trying to solve. Then show them how to solve it.

You act as their consultant.

Because when you do the right things by them, the right things will happen by you.

But content alone won’t be enough to make it work. There’s a secret ingredient to create standout content.

Do you know what it is?

Empathy.

If you’re unable to put yourself in their shoes, you won’t be successful at capturing their attention or earning their trust.

That trust is key to creating a growing business.

Because people do business with those they know, like, and trust.

So, that’s your job. Become a credible source of advice for the people you’re trying to reach.

The content you create becomes the thing they’re trying to consume rather than the thing interrupting them.

They want your marketing. How awesome!

You’ll gain an audience you can influence over time.

An audience that stays longer, spends more, and refers more people to you. You know, the perfect customer. 🙂
