Elvis may be happy with “a little less conversation” but if you’re a blogger the comments are where it’s at.
Unfortunately, out-of-the-box WordPress doesn’t allow people to subscribe to comments.
That means if someone leaves a comment, they’d have to keep checking back to your blog post to see if you or someone else comments after them. Well, that’s kinda aggravating, isn’t it?
And as Elvis would have you know: “All this aggravation ain’t satisfactioning me.”
That’s why you need the Subscribe to Comments plugin for WordPress. This way commenters get notified when someone else replies. Then you’ll be able to keep the conversation going.
Don’t worry, even if you’re not a technical type “It’s a groovy night and I can show you how to use it.” 🙂
How to add the Subscribe to Comments plugin for WordPress in 4 steps
Step 1: Login to your WordPress Dashboard. Scroll down the left side of the page to the Plugins section. Click “Add New.”
Step 2: Search for “subscribe to comments.”
Step 3: The top choice is the one you want. Click “Install Now.” (My image says “Installed” because, well, you know.)
Step 4: Click “Activate Plugin” to activate your new plugin.
Success!
If all went well, you’ll see that your plugin has been installed successfully.
Now when people leave a comment they can click to be notified when someone else replies. Which means they’ll know if they need to come back to keep the conversation going.
And that means, “a little less fight and a little more spark” to your blog.

Hi Dave, I tried this. Installed, activated, but no sign of it on the website. Are you using wordpress.com, or .org?
Dave Charest says
Hi Flloyd,
I just checked your site. All is good. I can subscribe.
The reason you don’t see it is because you’re logged-in as the writer of the post.
Flloyd Kennedy says
Thanks for that. I see it now. Your help is much appreciated!
Dave Charest says
My pleasure.

You *can* install something like Subscribe to Comments. You can *also* or *alternatively* install something like ReplyMe (I have both installed) which allows every comment writer to receive an automatic email if said comment receives a threaded reply.
Since installing ReplyMe — here’s my blog article on the subject – http://ariherzog.com/unveiling-replyme-wordpress-plugin/ — conversations and repeat visitors have increased tremendously!

Thanks Ari. That’s useful. I didn’t know about that one.

Dave Charest says
Hi Anuj,
I’m not sure what you mean by configure manual subscription? Would you explain?
Anuj@webtricksblog says
its like showing box below Notify me of followup comments via e-mail(Subscribe without commenting)
Dave Charest says
Ah, gotcha. I’m not too sure how you would do that. There isn’t a setting in the “Subscribe to Comments” plugin. 🙁
