Content. The stuff the internet is made of. Now we have the tools to create and connect directly with our audience. To establish an extended network of opportunity.
A place to share ideas. To develop them. And most importantly take action on them.
Check out this short video
The very first episode of Walks with Dave. (It’s like a pre-quel to Dances with Wolves. But not.)
Here’s an edited transcript if you’d rather read:
Welcome to the very first episode of Walks With Dave. What the hell is Walks With Dave? Well, I had this idea last night when I was walking home from the subway station.
The subway station near my house is down at the moment so I have to walk a few blocks to get to the next station. This seemed like an excellent opportunity to take advantage of this extra time walking.
Not only to get some exercise and lose a little weight off my fat body, but also to use this time to create some helpful content for the website. Time to talk about some issues in the realm of new media and making sense of the whole thing.
New media gives us the tools to create content
This content makes us all publishers. Regardless of whether we want to be publishers or not. That’s the way the Internet has developed. Now we can cheaply and easily create our own content and build an audience. By doing so we create opportunities.
New media can be some summed up as an extended network of opportunity. Before, relationships were based strictly on our immediate circle of friends and the people that they knew. Now we have the opportunity to reach beyond our regular sphere of influence. Now we can reach out and touch people in other areas. (That’s what she said.)
Which is precisely the reason I’m doing this video today. Originally, I made a video for Kyle Hamman and the Strawdog Theatre Company in Chicago. They hosted a 360 Storytelling event (thanks to 2AM Theatre.) This event brought a lot of other theater artists together from all over the globe.
It’s exciting that we can do that
It’s exciting that we can take advantage of New Media to create opportunities for ourselves and each other. We can build our own intellectual assets.
As you’re building your intellectual property, you can take that information and repackage it. Create. Then expand on those ideas. Share with other people. Help others achieve their goals. That’s what I’d like us all to do.
Learn. Grow. And share.
We’re all learning in this New Media landscape. We can learn from each other. As individuals and as artists we deserve the opportunities New Media can bring. It’s something we can do together.
It’s all about finding the time which is why I’m doing this now as I’m walking to the subway. We can stop making excuses and just do it. Then we can see what comes from it.
Again, I thought this would be a cool way to share some information with you.

People always ask how I shoot these videos. I use the Flip Mino HD Camcorder, 60 minutes – Amazon Affiliate link. There’s a newer version available also. I also use the Pocket xShot to hold the camera.
