Here’s the real reason why email marketing works so well.
It’s what’s considered a permission-based marketing channel.
So what does that mean?
It means that people actually raise their hand and say, “Yes, please. I want to get messages from you.”
There’s power in that act of opting in.
And that’s why email is always going to outperform things that people didn’t ask for.
If you can get people to the stage where they’re saying yes to joining your email list, that’s a great place to be.
It’s also why you can’t take shortcuts.
At some point, someone’s going to reach out and ask you if you wanna buy a list of email addresses.
Seems like a good shortcut, right?
No!
These people haven’t raised their hand to say, “Yes, please. Put me on your email list”
Think about it.
If you send emails to these people, their first interaction with your business is likely to be negative.
So as tempting as it may seem, stay away from that.
Another word to the wise.
Don’t share the emails people give to you with other businesses.
People are putting their trust in you. Maintain that trust by keeping their information private and only for your use.
The more control you give your contacts the more trust you build in the relationships.
Give them the opportunity to unsubscribe at any time.
You’re going to build a better quality list.
You’re going to get better results from it.
Are you giving people a reason to say yes to joining your list?
